About the Project
Hensel Phelps, in partnership with HNTB Corporation and the Beck Group, has been selected by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority to begin Design and Preconstruction Services on the Tampa International Airport – new Airside D project. This first phase of Design and Preconstruction Services is anticipated to occur from August 2023 through the end of 2025. In the second phase, construction is anticipated to begin immediately thereafter, with a projected duration of 3 years.
The airport will be building its first new terminal building in 17 years. Continuing the multi-phased implementation of the airport master plan, Airside D will serve both domestic and international flights, allowing the airport to accommodate an additional 13 million passengers. The scope of this Sixteen (16) Gate International Airside project includes the design and construction of a new 615,000 SF building, shuttle station, Security Screening Checkpoint (SSCP), Federal Inspection Services (FIS) facility for international arrivals, Passenger Boarding Bridges, Concessions, and support spaces. The overall project includes:
– Level 1: Ramp level with airline support, Federal Inspection Services (FIS) Facility, sterile corridor, circulation space, shuttle maintenance Facility, restrooms, concessions support, bus station, mechanical and back of house spaces.
– Level 2: Boarding level with 16 passenger boarding bridges and swing gates, TSA Security Screening Checkpoint, shuttle station, hold rooms, circulation space, restrooms, concessions, mechanical and back of house spaces.
– Level 3: Airline Club
– Automated People Mover: The system features approximately 800 feet dual lane guideway structure and a new Airside D passenger station. The basis for the scope incorporates the documents provided by the Owner as follows:
– Airside D Apron & Site Includes:
• Pavement removal, sitework, utility relocation, and soil remediation
• Subservice Utility Engineering: Field marks (e.g., pin flags, paint marks, wooden lathes, nails/discs etc.)
showing the position of the designated and located utilities, and Test Hole Data Report (THDR)
• Surveying: Topographic Survey, Vertical and Horizontal Survey Control, Pavement Elevations and Drainage Structures, and T.I.N (Triangulated Irregular Network)
• Pavement Demolition: Demo Pavement, Demo Utilities, Construction Safety and Phasing Plan (7460’s regarding airport height zoning permit)
